  • "Trusting in God is the ultimate remedy for fear." This quote from "The Fear Factor" sums up Author Shomade's message. This self help book breaks down the different fears a human experiences, describes those fears and then uses messages from the bible to help you overcome those fears. Those fears include failure, death, change, fear to love and fear of man. He discusses each fear separately, identifying the fear, addressing how to overcome it, and then providing bible passages for reference when dealing with that fear.

Author Shomade breaks down the messages in the bible into simple terms with pertinent examples to support his assertions that God has a way for you to overcome your fears. For instance, when Shomade discusses fear of failure, he talks about the importance of looking at failure as an opportunity to learn how to succeed next time. He also suggests that it is important to try and see how each situation can be an opportunity no matter what our brains might be saying to us. Using the story of David and Goliath, he states, "Where Saul's army saw Goliath as too big to kill, David saw Goliath as too big to miss."

Author Shomade is well read and freely uses a variety of texts to support his assertions. I do wonder who Shomade intends to be his target audience for this book. While it is primarily written as a self-help book, he does occasionally write instructions to counselors who are helping those coping with fear. And, he occasionally slips in evangelizing paragraphs, which I started mentally referring to as "pop-ups", which refer the reader to an appendix if they are interested in being saved. Those paragraphs were a distraction from the book's overall message. Best wishes to Author Shomade in his efforts to spread his message.
