Linda and Owen McFarland live the idyll life. They are in love and have been happily married for the past seven years. They live on a Massachusetts farm where both work as novelists. Both have teenage children from previous marriages. Their children attend the Heddon Academy boarding school. Their perfect world suddenly crashes when Bob Lorimar from the school calls to inform them that LindaÆs daughter Emily has just attempted to kill herself. She is under close watch at the Basingstoke Hospital psychiatric ward. During therapy, the despondent Emily states that her step-brother, OwenÆs son Bruce, raped her. Bruce ardently denounces her accusations as false. Both parents are stunned as they tend to believe both EmilyÆs accusations and BruceÆs denials. Who is telling the truth and who is lying? Whatever Linda and Owen find out, their life will never be the same again. AN ACT OF LOVE is a brilliant novel that highlights how a dastardly incident (whether true or not - read the book to find out) can potentially destroy a family. The four main characters and the support cast come across as genuine real people struggling to deal with the cataclysm that has left them all raw and in near ruin. In the hands of a magician like Nancy Thayer, the story line is less soap and more genuine, turning this into a classic reading experience that should not be missed by fans of relationship novels.
