  • Amelia is like any other little girl at her age- she's curious about her surroundings. If she's unsure about something she just asks why. Amelia believes if she asks "why?" to everything someone says, she will be considered smart because she's taking in the information they give her.

One day while Amelia's mom was cleaning the kitchen she asks her mom "What are you doing?" Amelia's mom says, "I'm cleaning the kitchen." Amelia says "Why? It doesn't look dirty to me." Her mom replied by saying, "It's good to keep everything clean. When things are dirty they're covered with germs." Amelia thinks a little bit then says, "Is it true that they can really be everywhere." Her mom explains how they are very small and are able to travel everywhere. But Amelia doesn't stop there-she asks her mom if that’s why she has to always make sure her body is clean and her bedroom is clean.

Madge Mathews' story is very creative and charming. The story makes kids think about the world around them. It also encourages kids to ask questions about objects or things because they believe they are becoming smarter every second. Laurie Cook's illustrations are very enjoyable and colorful. I love the way she illustrates the way Amelia perceives the atmosphere around her. Overall I think parents and their kids would really think this book is fun to read.
