Every once in a while an important novel crosses my desk. Waking Maya is Important with a capital I. Maya Burke is a 22-year-old woman, fresh out of college and searching for her purpose in life. When laying her beloved cat to rest, she discovers a journal buried in her back yard, addressed to her by her father who disappeared when she was a toddler. Thus the search for her purpose in life becomes entwined with her search for her father. The book reads smoothly and its lessons come across with a sense of personal discovery, creating an intimate experience for the reader. It is what I like to call a "trigger" book. Reading it triggers knowledge you hold within yourself, it resonates with the truths buried deep inside, and awakens parts of you by allowing you to remember that you already knew all of this. The book is reminiscent of The Education of Oversoul Seven by Jane Roberts and I'm sure it will have an effect on the world like The Celestine Prophesy by James Redfield. If I could put one book in the hands of everyone today, this would be the book.
